week 4 - Biographies - Quentin Tarantino.

Quentin Jerome Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA in 1963.
His parents separated and he moved with his mother to Los Angeles.
In his teens left the school and began working as an usher in a porn cinema.
After few years he decides to take acting classes and looking for work as an actor. In an effort to find work in the industry lied repeatedly in his work experience, one of his lies was that he had worked for Jean Luc Godard.
John Langley, who thought that Quentin had amazed audiovisual knowledge, (as I have been amazed by the number of awards and nominations that have this director.
Besides being the favorite director of my father, so I've seen all his movies)

In 1990, Tarantino sold the screenplay for True Romance which changed its name to "True Romance" directed by Tony Scott. With the money obtained in 16 mm wheel with some friends a homemade version of "Reservoir Dogs". The same year he left to work in the video club and start working on producing "Movie Tel" as a screenwriter.

I really like some of his films, some of them are to much bloodthirsty, but I think it is original. Movies that provide variety and you never get bored.

“It was clear that Tarantino was good copy, clearly someone who had  dreamed of fame, someone who conceived of himself as a performer and had no difficult putting himself across”

SEMIOTICS

In my case, the meaning of "semiotic" still being complicated. At the moment I know the basics knowledge of what the semiotic is, for example, An image or object, has a meaning, but also, this image or object has an other mean. Depending on the context, when and how we use it, forms, situation, and even each person can give different meanings to different things.

" Semiotics will be used as the general designation for the analysis of sign system".- (Semiotics - Paul Cobley and Litza Jansz. p.17)

Semiotics is concerned, of sign systems, communication processes, runs language and stuff. Semiotics, therefore, has dealt with the most varied things: architecture, cinema, theater, fashion, street signs, advertising, literature, art, games, rules of courtesy, television, gestures, etc..

"A science that studies the life of signs within social life" that proposes to give the name of "semiotics" - (The Saussure (Course))

"Study of communication processes, ie, the means used to influence others and recognized as such by those to whom you want to influence," - Erik Buyssens (Communication linguistique et l'articulation),

week 2 - Post Modernism

In my opinion, for the postmodernists, life unfolds only in the present. The vision of the past or the future is exempt to the background, not very clear. They need to Question the high ideals of society, to start to doubt of the validity of the reason, I mean, they do not want to be the already "existing", the typical, what is right and what is wrong. What "supposedly" is art ,and what is not supposedly to be. Just decided to remake his own art. Without having to follow the canons established by modernity. They decide to say "goodbye" to the great principles that were following to modernity. And also, to say "hello" to the new time when uncertainty reigns, discontinuity and pluralism.

“will not address art directly. Rather, It attempts "to see how his forces shifts may be registered in theoretical text"  - (Critical Voices. (The myths of postmodernism Theory) – Nicholas Zurbugg feb.2000 p .57)

The postmodern critical theories that have emerged, like the technology and advances in "human". They really do not believe in the discoveries of science or reality that science can give. Postmodernism criticizes science, to the point that they argument is that technological changes have occurred depending on the perspective that an individual may have to consider anything that surrounds the world and the universe.

“Occasionally an idea with no precedent springs from prophetic brain, with no preparation and we are surprised. We do not understand it and we have difficult accepting.” - What is post-modernism? - Charles Jencks 1939 (p.22)

This post will be longer than the rest. Because within postmodernism goes one of my favorite Spanish poet, Pedro Salinas. The book I most liked about the called "The voice you due" - "La voz a ti debida" A beautiful bookPedro Salinas was one of the proponents of postmodernism in Spain.

"¿Fue como beso o llanto?Horizontal, sí, te quiero.Hoy son las manos la memoria.Invitación al llanto. Esto es un llanto" - Pedro Salinas - La voz a ti debida.(p.88)

"Was it like kissing or crying?
Horizontal, yes, I love you.
Today is the hands of memory.
Invitation to tears. This is a cry"

Week 2.2 Modernism

The twentieth century begins in the golden period of modernist aesthetics.

In a complex historical context. Not only for the Russian Revolution (1917), the colonization of Africa and Asia, which led to the First World War.. In my case, my country, Spain, modernism entered just after of "the disaster of 98" where Spain was lost the territories “Ultramar”- Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines by the United States.

From this data, you can understand better, why modernism meant the resurrection of anguish (which characterized in europe the romantic literature) Why, rejects the realism of the previous stage. Why continually reminded that past world, that already gone ...

"if the trajectory of the term "modernism" is unclear, equally there is no broad critical consensus about modernism historical periodization. [...] "perhaps for this reason the relationship of modernism to modernity are equally clear." -  (Modernist woman and the visual cultures - Virsinic Woolf, Vanesa Bell. p.16)
Started by Ruben Dario fully in 1888 with the publication of Azul. But If I have to speak about the modernism in Spain, it would be really literal ignorance, forgetting the biggest authors; Valle Inclan, Antonio Machado and Jose Marti.

Nevertheless, the intolerance by some of the modernists, about sexuality and feminism, affected to the women writers and also in the authors who wanted to talk about it.
Perhaps for fear of breaking these rules at the time and its possible repercussions.
Needless to point out that not all modernists had the same mentality. Like Oscar Wilde and Montero.

                                                                                              Ruben Dario
Ramón V. Inclan

Antonio Machado.

"Caminante, son tus huellas

el camino y nada más;

Caminante, no hay camino,

se hace camino al andar.

Al andar se hace el camino,

y al volver la vista atrás

se ve la senda
que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.

Caminante no hay camino

sino estelas en la mar."

"Wayfarer, your footsteps

the way and nothing more;

Wayfarer, there is no way,

is made by walking.

When you walk you make the way
and looking back
the path
 is never
has to be trod again.

Caminante no hay camino

Only wakes upon the sea."

By Antonio Machado - Caminante - Wayfarer.

Week 1 - Pie Lab

My general idea about this new module is that we will talk about cultural and artistic movements. We'll also talk about events that have happened over the centuries and their repercussions continue today.
Secondly they informed us about “PIE LAB” Pie Lab is a local non-profits. It could have been a coffee shop like any other, but they combined the design "pop-up" and is targeted for customers to eat cake and talk.

Pie Lab, is also engaged in teaching for young people. DEVELOP teaching for small businesses and also teach the culinary arts while enjoying the events they organize.

My general opinion is that it is an innovative idea. I think people are tired of always going to the same premises. Always organize lectures boring sites. That does not even give you nuts for snacks. In addition, the local also offers guided tutorials to learn how to run your own business in the future. What more could you want?
In my country, Spain, this type of premises do not exist, would be a good idea to invest to create something similar in Spain.
Obviously we could add the menu serrano ham and potato omelette. But would target more on the local Spanish culture (which is very different from English but may be more similar to the United States) would open up later, would make night hours, for employees who like to snack more – dinner.
